About Britannia House Dental Surgery

Britannia House Dental Surgery has been serving the Newport, Shropshire community since 2006, operating from the historic Britannia House on New Street.

It is now preparing to move into a Grade II-listed building on St Mary’s Street, continuing its tradition of modern dentistry in a historic setting.

 

🏛 Origins and Location

  • The practice was established on 1 April 2006 at 2b New Street, Newport, Shropshire, on the ground floor of the building known as Britannia House.
  • The building itself is thought to be centuries old, possibly one of the few structures that survived the great fire of 1665 in Newport. Some historians suggest it may once have been an inn called The Britannia, which gave the property its name.

🦷 Development of the Practice

  • Originally run under Keith Borrett Ltd, the practice became well known locally for providing quality general dentistry, orthodontics, minor oral surgery.
  • In 2014, Dr. Kwaku Tagboto GDC No 103840 was appointed Director and Principal Dentist, bringing expertise in orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry, and expanded into The Coachmans House, 2c New Street in 2017.
  • The practice has consistently received positive feedback from patients, and is inspected by Care Quality Commission.

📍 Recent Changes

  • In 2025, Britannia House Dental Surgery announced plans to relocate from New Street to a Grade II-listed building on St Mary’s Street, formerly home to Abacus Day Nursery.
  • This move reflects both expansion and a desire to modernise facilities while preserving Newport’s historic architecture.
  • Dr Shahid Alam, Dr Audrey Chew also provide general and cosmetic dentistry including Bonding, Digital Dental scanning, supported by Dental Therapists Safa Rafiq and Muhammad-Bin Nasim and our Hygienist Katie Bussey
